[COFFEE] Possibility of World War 3

this just sounds grotesque, don’t you think? Can you trust the words out of his mouth when they’re put in the same statement as “denazification”?

I don’t know. Don’t let their companies sponsor our sports events, don’t let them organise international sports events, don’t make trade deal with them, don’t legitimise their rulership by meeting them, shaking hands and smile to the photos? I don’t know what is the fully right approach. I feel like the West needs Russia on their side, so they’ve been turning a blind eye on their crimes. But the Russian establishment proves time and time again that they have no respect for human lives.

Wolodymyr Selesnmyj is a Russian speaking Jew.

The wording is obviously propaganda.
But it‘s not probably less about the president as about right-wing nationalist militia.

Ukraine has been quite tolerant with regards to right-wing nationalists and Neo-Nazis, even integrating them into their operations and force, and it‘s well-known but not much talked about:

Wouldn’t “neutralising the military” mean Russia needs to block Ukraine from building up new military capability in the future? In turn wouldn’t that mean Ukraine’s people would be de facto subjugated to Russia? Just like Belarus next door

The way you put it is of course hyperbole.

That said, Ukraine does have a “problematic” history of not distancing themselves from the Nazis and their collaborators. They’re celebrating them as heroes, and quite officially so…

Stepan Bandera, awarded “Hero of the Ukraine” as recently as 2010, and even more recently being commemorated (with a year in his name, and a day of commemoration decided by parliament) and having his own monument in Lviv, wasn’t.

Indeed, Bandera is a universally hated figure in Poland, responsible for the genocide of about 100’000 Poles. It always sparks tensions when they try to make a hero out of him. History is complicated.

There is recent Polish movie about it, with good reviews.

Interesting hypothesis, but what I’m seeing is it’s going the other direction…

I can only imagine Putin and his cronies shorting the hell out of the stock market this past week, knowing what was to come.

Why should the Russian mess up with Chernobyl given that the area would be only inhabited by them? Maybe to scare the rest of Europe given the memories the name evokes? But I have heard there’s no risk of such large radiation clouds and who claims the opposite might be doing Putin’s game.

They say Chernobyl is already under the control of Russia.

Yeah, it would be terrible if all that the western leaders could come up with was just a lot of lip service…

S&P 500 in the green now as we speak.

EDIT: though that certainly doesn’t mean we’re going to have a rally now. Anything can happen. But stock market is, perhaps surprisingly, perhaps unsurprisingly, holding up comparatively well today.

Fucking sick what’s happening in Ukraine.

Today, the Russian military killed my mother, the person whom I loved more than my life … in the morning they started shelling our village, blew up the military base, the shock wave threw me away from the window, the house shook, the electricity was gone … We went to the city to withdraw money and buy food, returning home at the exit from Kharkov, Russian tanks blocked the road, our car began to fire, we turned into a dead end and jumped out of the car, two guys jumped out to meet us, Russian soldiers, young, 18-20 years old … who barely held weapons … We sat out for about 15 minutes, then shooting started at us … My mother was wounded in the arm, I heard her screaming in pain … And at that time a soldier throws me at the ground and shouts many times don’t shoot… These are his own… He shouts to the Russian soldiers don’t shoot… Heavy shelling begins… A dead soldier falls on me. I understand that she is dead … She was hit in the head … I am left alone … They shoot around, I grab my documents and hide behind an iron box … At that time, dad is driving from Kiev at all speeds, not yet knowing that my mother was killed, and I am hiding so that they don’t kill me … I sat for an hour and a half behind this box, I was afraid move … After a while, I hear that the shots have stopped and I crawl to the car and take the shot soldier with me … I turn the car along the curb and drive at full speed from the place of shelling … So I was left without my mother, without Irina Perlifon who so many loved and respected… And who was a great example for me in this life, a person who never did anything bad to anyone, my very kind and purposeful beloved mother … I am writing this now and just crying out loud … I don’t believe … I don’t know I survived, how I escaped and saved a person … But I couldn’t save my mother … My phone was torn from calls … I’ll tell you honestly, when I was lying on the ground among bullets and dead people, I understood that I will die … This is not a fairy tale, and not the news that you are shown, a real hell is happening in our cities of Ukraine … This is not even 2014 … this is HELL … The Russian military is killing civilians in Kharkov !!

I guess it’s because the west can only offer sanctions. I wonder if they would really answer if he attacks even a NATO country. Only hope is from the Russian people.

S&P 500 is 4.2% up from today’s bottom. Business as usual.

Maybe now you feel a bit what I felt in the morning.

In the west we want to fight hate speech, spread tolerance and diversity and make everyone feel safe. Yet these concerns pale in the face of real war. We put filters on our profile pictures, draw with crayons on pavement, illuminate buildings and send our thoughts and prayers.

it feels like we are in a classroom full of people and one of the bullies just punches one kid in the face and everyone is scared to act, or even worse, everyone is ok with the fact that the bully is occupied with something and are not looking at them…

We are weak, we do not even freeze all russian assets its incredible. A statement like this is just like acceppting such behaviour.

Also i want to see everyone who wanted to kill off our military in the last years, what do you think would happen if we called for help?
Not that our military can really keep up a fight but at least we could try…

As we are basically part of NATO (PFP), a lot would happen.

The ones who speak plain truth are ridiculed, censored and banned.

How can an ex-chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schröder accept to become a chairman of the board of Nordstream and of Rosneft, a state-controlled company? And nobody bats an eye. Who knows, maybe Angela was also in bed with Putin. Corruption everywhere.
