Chronicles of 2026 - the next chapter

Would be, if he wasn’t that powerful. There’s one where he’s asked if he does any sports or physical exercise (NB he never has), and he says “well I move all the time, talk to people all the time, play a lot of golf”… Guy is simply a disgusting human being.

OK, OK, am not disagreeing with you on that, just trying to keep it lighthearted.

I suspect Iran will play him even more during the next phase of discussions and would not be surprised if the final deal gets WORSE (i.e. better for Iran) or just blows up. Either way, there’ll be a backlash with the mid-terms as the Democrats will have a big stick to hit Trump with.

I definitely hope so, or maybe not so everyone can see without a doubt how bad the Tea Party highjacked republican party actually is.

BTW, watching the Newsroom right now on HBO, it is like a documentary how did the US get into that shit, just that it has been written like 15y ago. Just the quotes from Santorum, Bachmann and others are crazy batshit and noone really standing up to them (internally).

I believe the source of the current shit is 9/11

  • It led to Bush Jr starting wars and putting lots over excessive domestic government ‘oversight’ in place
  • That led to the counter reaction of Obama going a bit to the other side
  • Which led to the environment being right for somebody like Trump coming in

The question is - can (and if so: how?) a path towards a reasonable equilibrium be found…

Perhaps Osama succeeded in ruining the US after all.

Me too. I remember my left wing friends celebrating - yes, celebrating - looking at the WTC going down. I also remember thinking “This opens a can of worms which will torment us for decades, all will go to shit now”.

Nah, I think it is the financial crisis in 2008 which find its roots in the total liberalisation since Reagan (?) in the 70s, for instance that investment and retail banks had to be separate entities.

The scissor between rich and poor became just too big, which allows radical parties to take over.

Combined with an uninformed electorate and the not so unobvious relegation to 2nd class citizens (ID for voting in a country were the driver license is an ID and most people do not have a passport since they don’t travel).
I found the Newsroom show really informative about some stuff.

Finally, 2008 coincides with the peak petrol production (conventional one). The dependency lead to the wars in Iraq, and its fallout in the Middle Eastern world, as well as Ukraine (controlling transit from Turkey/Russia) as well as more recently Venezuela and Iran. In general the fight for resources is on (Metals in general).

For me 9/11 is just a symptom, not a root (response to neo-colonialsm for securing resources).

Why did Trump attack Iran? Did he think he could win it all?

The response to dotcom crash and 9/11 led to the 2008 financial crisis.

Fed has been pumping to get from one crisis to the next. dotcom, 2008, ???, covid, iran oil crisis next?

“Airplanes! Carriers! B2! Things go BOOM!” :rocket: :collision:

IMO because he’s in Netanyahu’s pocket, is surrounded by sycophants, and is an idiot.

Unironically this is probably not far from the truth.

Could be that simple. I mean I absolutely never understood the tactic here. A quick action like Venezuella to remove the regime ok, but otherwise no chance to win.

So maybe his stupidity finally came back at him.

He’s a bully and bullies escalate out of proportion. If he were a poker player he would be bankrupt by now.

He tried the regime change (both the US and Israel wanted that bad), the israelis knew how to get the job done, the US provided the muscle. And then like when a trumpet is stolen from a clown in circus, he gets another, smaller trumpet… there was the new Khamenei. It would’ve been another one and another one… then someone told him you can’t kill the center of a religion.

Then he started having a lot of collateral damage in the Gulf stated and it started to hurt him politically.

So at this point he probably pulled an Uma Thurman from Pulp Fiction to “let’s bomb every m* f* last one of them!”, then someone told him you can’t bomb away the mountains… but they tried anyway.

So the last resort is beating them at their game (naval blockade) which a) wasn’t working, b) hurts all his allies c) is extremely expensive with Carriers vs Iranian RPGs… and at one point he had to pull back and said “oh yeah we bombed everything to pieces”, so we, by definition, have won.

Congratulations!

Funny. Had an interview recently with a KPMG partner and he was talking about AI. He took a dig at Deloitte for using AI for Australian clients that turned out to be inventing sources. Pay peanuts get monkeys.
