Chronicles of 2025

US down, Canada down, Mexico down, USD down, Europe up, Japan up, EUR up, gold up.

My bet is the market reacting to tariffs set to take effect tomorrow.

Dunno, I bought gold though.

As a swiss investor with a VT ETF through IBKR, could there be any additional risks by the new US Administration?

Lets say, hypothetical, if they decide to seize all foreign investors assets and securities, would it be possible to freeze a VT ETF on IBKR?

Of course.

I normally don’t look at Chinese stocks but JD is looking almost too good to be true. Is anyone else looking at this? Why is it so cheap?

I just noticed I bought a small amount at <$27 back in September. Now I wish I’d bought more!

Though maybe looking more carefully, I wonder if profits have just been flattered by the post-covid boom years.

VTI vs CHDVD ..maybe I should add USD/CHF

edit: yahoo finance is dumb. Blue = VTI , red/pink is CHDVD

Both in their respective trading currency, I guess?

Yeah I suppose so. that’s why I said I should add the exchange rate.

Looks like it started diverging at the inauguration (this is comparing on same currency)

I personally would have used CHSPI, but in the end, the ytd performance are nearly indentical.
There will probably a drop as well, once tariffs are set on the pharma sectors.

Whelp. Here it goes. Tariffs are coming.

So, another period when we are going to test our resilience? I would say, this time mostly to a permanent media shitstorm rather than to falling markets.

Reddit novices on meltdown mode, talking about bears, exiting all positions etc, a bit more serious on the LETF sub where I guess any drop is more painful. Dividend people rejoicing, go figure

Buy Buy Buuyyyyyyyy - It is disco(unt) time
(it is still kind of weird to see the portfolio going down from 770k to 745k in the space of a few weeks tough).

But buuuuuuuuuy

I lost half of my gains for the year and the market isn’t even open yet!

Why USD/CHF is falling? Foreign investors are selling US bonds?

everyone is selling whatever they can sell with US written on it. The reasons can’t be discussed on this forum
Tariffs is one of them

I even prepared a “Panic selling 2025” spreadsheet of positions to dump and hide out on Gold/CHF, but didn’t pull the trigger on Friday.

I still think this CA/MX tariff thing should blow over, so the volatility could be a buying opportunity.

When I analyzed my portfolio, it was fairly defensive anyway:

Area Percentage
REIT 10.3
Gold 9.6
Bond 9.7
Tobacco 9.6
Uranium 7.6
Insurance 5.4
Healthcare 4.8
Gas 4.7
Commodity 4.6
Semiconductor 4.3
Safe 3.6
Utility 3.4
Midstream 3.4
Mining 3.1
Value 2.6
Dividend 2.5

Bad planning imo, Noah built the Ark BEFORE the storm. Pity the dinosaurs didn’t find their way to it. Oh noes I forgot, the saying is “no religion, no politics” isn’t it?

Wait, do I understand correctly that a forum about investing, there is no politics allowed?
So if someone wants to understand the happenings in the market they are not allowed to get answers here? Or is it simply for politics not related to investing?
