Assessing current value of future pensions

Any good calculator for CoastFIRE?

Ahem.

  • I don’t use any specific calculators for FIRE, income in retirements and such things. I prefer to do such calculations myself.

In my case, I value understanding that I receive in the process more than results. The reason for this is that I find the results too uncertain. Projections to over 10 years is just not something I trust enough to base my life on it. I basically look at what is within the range of possible and what is not, and for the rest I am trying to keep living my life, working my work and looking for a balance between them.

Excel is enough for me.

  • That said, I think a well done FIRE / Retirement Income calculator can be used as a CoastFIRE calculator.

CoastFIRE just means that your new contributions are 0. You should be able to plug it in.

0 contributions is one scenario that I am projecting into the future. Another one, which I also consider a variant of CoastFIRE with a Swiss twist, is contributing to 3a only. I model it with 15k contributions per year (for 2 adults).

Most retirement calculators you find in internet are for US, though. I think our host @_MP was working on a Swiss Retirement calculator.
