Any doctors or medical professionals willing to share about the financial aspects of working in the medical field?

So I’m not sure how it is in your professions, but speaking about the financial aspect of the medical business is not something that’s done often in ours. When I left the public health sector I had no idea what the common salaries where, what costs I have to expect, what it will/would be like to open my own office etc. When you work in the public field you are usually (unless you’re really the upper echelon of MD’s) bound by a collective employment agreement of the canton so negotiating is also not done. I guess because we are making money off of peoples diseases and the whole health care costs increase thing we tend to keep quiet.

So I was wondering if any medical doctors would be willing to chat about finances, either here or feel free to PM me.

Would you be willing to give an overview here. It would be interesting to understand the economics of it.

I have a few doctors as relatives and see a big difference in their lifestyles. One stayed in public hospitals and earned a modest amount but lives off a great pension now.

Another started his own practice and retired early with a lot of money and spends his time sailing on his yacht and visiting his many holiday homes.

A third was someone I met a while back, but he had some very niche practice where he worked only a few days a week but was absolutely minting money - that was in the UK.

I’m a bit worried about being identified but I can certainly try to give some information. What are you interested in? You can also DM me.
