I am working as ANOBAG for a US company. I previously worked for a Swiss company that contributed to my second pillar Pensionskasse. My new US employer generously offered me to match that contribution. I have come to realize that there is no Pensionskasse available for ANOBAGs and that the Stiftung Auffangeinrichtung does not discriminate between employer and employee contributions. I don’t want to miss out on my employer’s contributions. Any suggestions on where I could find a second pillar solution?
Can you make a contract with your employer so that they pay out their contribution to you and you provide proof that you paid both contributions into pillar 2 / Auffangeinrichtung?
You have to reach out to a pension fund yourself to open an account. They will likely be confused because they aren’t familiar with ANOBAG. The procedure to follow is the same as for an employer setting up pension for an AG/GmbH.
Once setup the pension fund will send you directly invoices for the contributions.
But in your case, I would simply pocket the extra money since it isn’t mandatory to have a second pillar for US based employers. You’ll pay more taxes but you have the freedom of managing your retirement savings.
I need to demonstrate with receipts that I contributed to a pension fund. I should also mention that I plan to leave Switzerland in January, not sure if setting up a pension fund is an option for such a short time frame.
From a Swiss perspective, the most sensible solution is to simply have your employer add their pension fund contribution to your salary. You can then either have a second pillar at the Stiftung Auffangeinrichtung, put the money into the pillar 3a, or just invest it elsewhere as you see fit.
From a US perspective though, there may be differences for your employer with regards to how different employee benefits are accounted for and taxed.
A good first step would be to ask your employer if they would consider adding the contribution to your salary and let you sort out your own retirement savings.
