Exactly, and unfortunately, I don’t know the reason for these discrepancies.
They did provision it in the past as well and only started in 2019 to pass the indian capital gains taxes to the redeeming investors.
Yes, I’m 100% sure. I got this information directly from the CS Portfolio Manager.
Thanks
I notice that in our 1E plans FP is using CS fund too. Perhaps there is something good about this fund that doesn’t meet the eye
‘kickbacks’?
No. I meant the way fund is structured might not be so bad. We just look at two three numbers.
I would be surprised if CS made this change in 2019 to somehow harm their investors who are going to redeem at time of retirement. That wouldn’t make sense.
Could you explain why 99% USD securities should not be possible at viac? CSIF World ex CH is in USD at VIAC?
It was impossible to have 99% foreign two months ago, but now it’s possible.
CSIF World ex CH is in USD because Viac can convert CHF to USD and made money on the currency echange fees
Don’t they anymore?
They still do. I just changed to a VT-like portfolio and annoyingly the CSIF World ex CH is traded in USD.
I think they say they expect 0.2% costs for Global 100 . For VT because there is more exposure to foreign currencies , perhaps the costs would be 0.3%
Ideally should be minimised by balancing buy/sell and only trade what is really needed
I just got an email from VIAC saying that from end of November, UBS is requiring 4 index funds, including “CSIF World ex CH – PF Plus” and “CSIF World ex CH Small Cap – PF”, to be traded in CHF. Nice, this should eliminate currency exchange fees for the main part of my portfolios. Looks like CSIF/UBS world funds will have an advantage at VIAC compared to Swisscanto funds.
The email also mentions that VIAC Invest will be launched in a few days.
Would worth the money to switch from swisscanto global 100 to ubs global 100?
The pre-defined strategies don’t actually use the world funds as they use separate funds for US, Europe etc. I.e., this will only affect custom strategies, as far as I can tell.
If you’re planning to keep investing more money at VIAC for many years, switching to a custom strategy with CSIF/UBS world index funds could make sense.
Keep in mind that the switch would result in currency exchange fees, though, at least once the announced change in trading currency is in effect. Changing the strategy right now would likely be the best option to minimize currency exchange fees.
Here the full announcement. What I find interesting is the sentence: “Inhaltlich ändert sich nichts und es besteht somit auch kein Handlungsbedarf – der zugrundliegende Index resp. die Zusammensetzung des Fonds sowie das Risiko bleiben identisch.” Not sure I agree with this statement, since FX conversion fees get added to the mix.
Aufgrund der Übernahme der Credit Suisse durch die UBS kommt es bei vier angebotenen Indexfonds zu Änderungen. Die folgenden Anteilsklassen sind ab Ende November nur noch in CHF handelbar:
CH0429081620, CSIF World ex CH – PF Plus
CH0214967314, CSIF World ex CH Small Cap – PF
CH0033210086, UBS Bond World ex CH Gov.
CH0189955260, UBS Bond World ex CH Corp.
Bei Fragen stehen wir gerne zur Verfügung.
Beste Grüsse
Team VIAC
Where are FX conversion fees added? They will be avoided for future trades. And the switch should be happening for current holdings without a trade, as I understand it.
I don’t like to say that I told you so, but actually, we told you so. Don’t move to Swisscanto; the problem will be resolved soon, for free.
My mail also included a second section about other funds:
The switch would be happening without a trade. Confirmed by VIAC. So no FX loses.
TIL “in wenigen Tagen” (in a few days) means multiple weeks in VIACese.
Apparently, their partners dropped the ball and they aren’t ready yet:
After a lot of work and quite a few hurdles, we are now on the home straight! Unfortunately, it’s not quite enough for the launch on our birthday (VIAC will be 7 years old on November 22), as not all partners are ready yet.
