2026 World Cup - Game On!

Not so excited yet, but it’s starting soon.

Hope Brazil wins!

This world cup really hammers home the benefits of FIRE – tricky schedule when still working

Yes, indeed. And it also feels (already) that this world cup has even more peripheral (non-football) story lines that are interesting / infuriating / etc. than when it was in Qatar, Russia, etc.

I should correct my first post, I’d love Curacao to do well! I recall the South Korea run to the semi’s many years ago being a fantastic one to follow and Curacao is the ultimate underdog.

I also recall how South Korea got so far. But, well, we all love an underdog. Hope Cabo Verde :cape_verde: can celebrate against Saudi Arabia :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Germany 7 - Curacao 1

ok, the blue wave will need points rather than count on goal difference go proceed past the group phase

what a mess the Swiss team was by the way

My 2 cents so far

-some teams are really amateurs and dilute the game’s quality

-I like the VAR and the new rules to avoid time loss

-the hydration break is a f… pile of s…

Agree on all 3

I’d also prefer a smaller tournament (less teams, 4-5 teams in each group during group phase), but…

More teams → more games → more $$$ → more countries vote for Infantino (who i can’t stand)

My 2c:

  1. It’s a version of the Olimpics but only for football. That means also more or less the goals are the same. Everyone should partecipate. The goal is “friendship” if you will. Otherwise you go back to the other similar events.
  2. The Idea that also the referees should come from around the world is though a big pile of s. You can’t put an almost-amateur referee “against” some professional actors.

Spain being quite moustachian, living and breathing FI – Football Incompetence.

The big guns (Haaland, Mbappe, Messi) have really made their mark during their first game. Messi got a major pass again, just like 4 years ago.

My money is on France to win the tournament.

He should have gotten the red card. But again, it’s easier to get away if you are Messi

Super disappointed with Portugal’s performance. They always mess around in group stage but yesterday, no opportunities were created. Seemed like the only one that wanted to play was Francisco Conceicao

It is crazy - normally the world cup was a key event for me even if I never was much about football because I am more a rugby guy (can’t stand the arguing with the referee and the dramatic dives).

But my disinterest is so low since the Qatar World cup and even more now. Doesn’t mean anything for me anymore.

Kind of sucks for the athletes who are working hard for this, but FIFA is destroying it with their greed.

Same for me, less enthusiasm this year. I have the feeling the games have a poorer quality. But mostly the crowd seems off in the stadium and the hydration break makes me crazy.

Maybe I’m getting old and grumpy.

The next one in Spain + Portugal + Maroco will be wilder.

This year my heart goes to England, but I think France will win.
