Saw this video on YT, which had me wanting to scream at them.

At first, I saw the 96k income and thought, OK, that’s a moderate salary, I can see how you would struggle with 5 kids. And then I realised it was 96k _per month_.

I haven’t watched the video (it would probably trigger me and I’m trying to avoid exposure to that) but do they say at some point something akin to taxes digging a big hole in their budget?

I think one problem people struggle with, that doesn’t go away with higher salaries and might explain a part of people having the feeling they’re living paycheck to paycheck is that we crystalize on our salary as a number when we negociate for it. Then, (un)conciously, it becomes the amount of money we should be able to spend. Wage deductions and taxes hit into that so that we are constantly over budget.

I’m beyond hoping people will become better educated financially and compute their actual spending power by themselves. Maybe expected taxes should be computed at hiring and the actual net salary number discussed include those. You can balance it with the tax declaration afterwards, the important point is that people have their after tax income as their actual unconscious salary target when they sign for a position.

To be frank, I’d rather not have it, not get exposed at all to people with high wealth and high income saying they live paycheck to paycheck and let them grow from their own experiences but if we have to be exposed to that, I think that could be something that could help.

There are lots of clickbait titles with Ramit Sethi.
I don’t find it useful to spend lots of time to be teach to live a rich life.

I haven’t achieve my goal to focus on the spending yet. He has even more example on his podcast.
On this topic I will prefer listen the

- Netflix episodes of [Get Smart With Money](https://www.netflix.com/ch-en/title/81312877) featuring Pete Adeney (MMM) and Paula Pant (which has her own YT auditors questions answered with Joe [Afford Anything](https://www.youtube.com/affordanything))
