I bought JEPI even if I didn’t need to. ![]()
Apart from that I “wanted” to do a monthly 10-12chf purchase from aliexpress, but I missed some months because I can’t find anything half-useful.

mmm, i do run daily! Though yes, 5 would be enough for a good rotation.
not all of them are/were new-ish, though there were many that i’ve retired a long time ago, and gave them away to ppl.
How does that happen? I dunno, a new version comes out of something i liked before, or I’m looking at a new trail race, where I will justify it to myself, that ofc, that will be very technical, and my current trail shoes are not good for the terrain. Or it will be very muddy, and the lugs on my current pairs are not long enough etc etc
In essence, i talk myself into it ![]()
I buy the minimum (1. World Standard…) for myself, not bc I restrain myself, but bc I really do not have a pleasure in it: have very few clothes (can pack everything in 1 luggage, except for the big winter shoes and jacket), 1 smartphone, 1 family car, no expensive hobby (jogging, diy gardening, podcasts, live sports). I enjoy giving things away (smooth face).
My wife is a little bit more easy going with that, but really not extreme, so we fit well. Would i live alone, the house would probably be awkwardly empty.
On the other side, I enjoy gifting things to my children: things to play and craft, swimming lessons, holidays camps, books, toys, vacations, bikes, clothes etc etc. Quite often I realize they really have a lot more than I did and I feel a bit bad. I put one limit: they need to enjoy the gift; if I see they get it / forget it/ move on, I know the limit was passed.
We also have 2 expensive cats and do not look at the costs for their food and veterinary checks - there might be a lot to save here, I might start a thread.
Back to myself: The family car had a very small bump; absolutely 0% relevant, but after 1 year observing it, my ocd side wanting symmetry won and i paid 2k for the cosmetic repair.
Had some cosmetic issues as well - would have probably cost thousands at the Mercedes dealer to get it perfect… instead i went to a highly regarded detailer and it only cost 300 chf for a 95-99% solution. So good that you wouldnt notice it unless you really go looking for it.
I‘m curious.
How far is it to get there, how long does it take you and how frequently do you shop?
Cost the same? I thought the whole point was that Whole Foods was staggeringly more epensive!
Keywords “same goods”, he goes on to say that a basket of random goods will indeed make Whole Foods be a lot more expensive, but speculated that the reason is that the price of a “baseline basket” is much higher than Safeway. All by my recollection, it’s been 10+ years since I read the book.
Only shopped at Whole Foods twice, and that’s also 10+ years ago, but you’d likely find the same in CH. Not quite Whole Food target group, but let’s say Coop/Migros likely still match Aldi or Lidl on some very basic items, say no-brand cornflakes, sugar, one sort of pasta etc.
The difference then is that there, those are well hidden below and behind 50 other higher priced options and promotional shelves, lest they cannibalize the other stuff. While at the discounter, they sit in plain sight, in a carton box along with 2-3 other options, maybe thereof one brand, one organic.
For all other stuff, you could probably fill journals and books (or blogs and channels) to what extend or for which product higher prices pay for higher quality in any form vs. simply higher margins, marketing budgets and nicer packaging, or cost of logistics .
Let me guess, that’s one of that 3-5k+ category? ![]()
Naturally
I can’t really tell you that, as it’d be too obvious where I live from that info alone, but let’s just say it’s very close and we exclusively shop there.
