Tax declaration

Tax year 2021 declared last year (2022).

I am taxed at source so can I expect something by end of year or even later?

I’ve seen it take much longer than 1y for at source folks.

haha okay so seems like I need to temper my anticipation to maybe get some money back.

Does anybody have experience on how to declare stock from a Employer Stock Purchase Program (ESPP). Declaring my taxes in Basel-Stadt btw. Basically, my stock is locked, meaning I do not receive dividends nor am I allowed to trade it. Once I place the ISIN in the system, I can tick that it is both “Mitarbeiteraktie” and “gesperrt”. Once my ISIN is recognized it automatically selects the section “mit Verrechnungssteuer (with withholding tax)”. Since I do not receive any dividends, my guess would be, I need to change it to “ohne Verrechnungssteuer” or am I wrong?

As a follow up on the topic Verrechnungssteuer. Am I correct that I generally place all of my assets (i.e., bank accounts, US domiciled, and Ireland domiciled stock) ohne Verrechnungssteuer? Basically, I checked the values on ICtax under “Gross return minus VSt. into CHF” and thus selected everything without.

In the past I would write them with a value of 0, but I stopped doing that. Those stocks are only going to be yours when they vest and that’s when they end up the salary statement as income.

Hey there, do any of you know where I can find information on all the possible deductions I can claim? I already know about the basic ones like food and transport, but I’m pretty sure there are other things I could claim, like the money I spent on studying while working. Also, I pay around $24,000 a year for my apartment, which is about 20% of my income. Any tips on where to find more information would be appreciated!

The tax authorities provide a booklet together with the tax form called “wegweisung” as far as I remember. There you can find all the deductions and the requirements for the respective deductions.

You can put it in the deductions for education, but there are restrictions/requirements depending on the canton.

Rent is definitely not deductible.

Wow really? What is the justification for this deduction? Only for Home Office?

The taxes are already really low in Zug xD

Yeah - but have you seen their rents?

I just checked that: https://www.vd.ch/fileadmin/user_upload/organisation/dfin/aci/fichiers_pdf/Tableau_des_déductions_2023.pdf and it seems that you can deduct rent seeing the code 660.

It’s a bit more complicated, you can deduct the difference between your net rent (capped at 10k for single, 13k for couple) and 20% of the declared income.

(So you’d need to pay more than 20% of income in rent to deduct anything, and earn less than 50k for a single person household)

Anyone owns Ishares ETF -: SSAC?
It seems the tax values are still not finalised when the financial year finished 30 Nov 2024

Thank you for the workaround with screenshots. Zug has the same issue. So, reworking the US based ETF entries (IB account).

Question: does the withholding tax reporting work with Swiss brokers?

Sorry - I wrote too soon. when entering ISIN, Zug is forcing the Valoren-Nummer and B-Ohne Verrechnungsteuer !! Any suggestions ?Thank you in advance.

Not sure about Zug, but in Aargau I managed to add a problematic ETF as “Aktien” instead of “Anlagefonds” and ignore the warning. I had to copy dividends manually though.

Note that in my case the ETF was a foreign one, so Verrechnungssteuern are irrelevant. My problem was that it wasn’t added to DA-1.

Isn’t that just a checkbox?

Not in Aargau 2024, apparently. It’s either recognized as DA-1, or not. For those that are, there’s a checkbox to apply for R-US, which an annoying warning always asks to check. I’ll need to remember again next year to ignore it

Folks, Thanks.

The prompt response from the etax.zug people below and it works. Also, for non-Swiss brokers (such as IBKR), pls enter the withholding taxes in the field Betrag Paush. Anrechnung and NOT in Betrag Rueckbehalt USA (only for Swiss brokers). Thanks.

Thank you for your request. To avoid this, please proceed as follows:

As soon as the data has been entered automatically, delete the securities number and add it to the description

Did anyone in ZH ever realize that the online tax calculator (and the tax documents you hand in with the online tool) seem to have different rounding rules than the final bill?

When I check the calculations, I can see that the online tax calculator rounds the “Einfache Staatssteuer” value* down (e.g. X0.8 = X0.0), while the final bill rounds up (X0.8 = X1.0).

The final difference is so laughably low that it is silly to ask them for explanation**, but my OCD would have loved to see the same number nevertheless.

* which is calculated by taxable income x Steuersatz + wealth tax
** can’t be that there have been different deductions, as the taxable income (and the “Steuersatz” value) is identical in both

The difference multiplied by the number of taxpayers in Kanton Zurich goes to the programmer. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
