No need to educate myself further, when it’s plainly obvious that hardly anybody trusts decentralised finance schemes without centralised authority and government oversight.
Neither my landlord, nor local supermarkets, government authorities or the farmer’s market accept Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies as means of payment.
The simple fact is that Bitcoin doesn’t work without “centralised”, gatekeeping on and off-ramps.
I mean… it technically “works”. It just lacks practical use and ability to (spend on) anything with it.
Can you name the last 10 things you paid for/bought with Bitcoin (or Lightning) and when?
Not good practice to keep money in an exchange any minute more than strictly necessary. People should keep the bulk of their net worth in a cold airgapped wallet and move tiny amounts to a warm wallet like MetaMask and spend it with a CC.
Easy. And anyone can of course keep a few hundred francs for current expenses on TradFi and move the rest to crypto.
Technically true - but too complicated for the average joe.
Who also doesn’t want to deal with the risk of losing access to that cold wallet.
When he can always take his ID and go to his bank to reset access in case of lost passwords.
And anyone can of course keep a few hundred francs for current expenses on TradFi and move the rest to crypto.
Current expenses are priced in TradCurrency, not crypto.
Well Crypto is normal also for me. I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon. But if it’s around since 2008 and still most people don’t use it for any real purpose other than buying it, then I am not sure what else needs to happen for people to use it .
I feel that there is only a narrative but no real utility. I am not saying there would never be a use case. But I feel that as time is passing, other things catch attention of people.
But I am not an expert of any sort when it comes to Bitcoin. I just relate to things from common experience. Everyone I know have never used Bitcoin for anything except to buy and keep. Maybe time will change. But is anyone even working on it ?
As a means of payment, it’s a solution in lack of a (perceived) problem. Except if you’re a criminal, maybe
Even for countries with really shitty currencies (providing the greatest incentive to), it has failed to achieve any semblance of mainstream adoption as alternative currency.
Edit: …which is why you have to rely on intermediaries to exchange into accepted mainstream currency.
And same, frankly tired, back and forth. I think - without my usual sarcasm and hyperbole - that whoever is not interested in discussing BTC, or wants to argue against BTC shouldn’t be on this thread. That’s why I am not anymore.
Let’s allow our colleagues who do want to discuss BTC to do it without interference.
No that would make the thread dead quickly. And I need it alive, so I am prepared to flash sell all BTC I have, once/if ever the conviction of @stojano shows cracks.
Don’t like the arguments, so let’s shoot or shut down the messenger?
To be a bit provocative: Maybe you’d want to go and find another venue (read: forum) to do so.
Look, you, I, we are not discussing things in a vacuum here. Mustachian Post is not a crypto community or forum. It’s a personal finance website and forum. And especially the blog (maybe more than the forum) target audience is decidedly beginners too: people that may be less well-versed or experienced in financial things.
When something is presented as something it’s not, I’m not shy to speak up. And I believe that’s especially important when beginners might be in the audience.
Volatility is too high for my liking (which, again, doesn’t make it well-suited as a store of value), and I’ve been refraining from making short-term bets for a while, cause I haven’t been rather burned by in them (nothing to do with Bitcoin). I’d consider myself a long-time investor.
I didn’t mean it like that, my point was more about how we have other threads here were a sizeable majority was adamantly against a minority: dividends, covered calls, stock picking and interfering with the conversation of those who wanted to have a conversation. That’s where I was coming from.
That said, the thread is cyclical, so to Almi’s point, and given this is not a crypto forum, I too expect it’d go quiet if only crypto peeps posted on it, because they don’t post in fact!
MSTR is available for a bargain, it’s down 75% from ATH. Not sure why Saylor didn’t buyback shares. Perhaps as he doesn’t make any income from underlying assets
And here we are again. Just buy and hodl, and let people talk. Tired of debating why it is more dangerous not to own Bitcoin than to own it. A lot of people are so sidelined, or so broke, and so angry about life it’s like that.
