Neon-bank fee free worldwide

Because I wanted to pay for a trip with my Neon card, in EUR, to avoid being ripped off on Booking.com or Paypal currency conversion. So the idea was that the wifey TWINTs the amount to our household Neon account and then I pay with the Neon card online.

Could only do it this morning, which was frustrating.

You mean that booking.com rip you or you talk about CC tricks? I almost always check prices by using google.com exchange rate and the difference is laughable. (0.1%?) usually in favor of chf.

Not (yet). I migrated last week, the reference is still necessary.

both  :frowning:

Booking.com said last time I booked around 900 CHF that “we have converted the currency to your home currency CHF for a convenience fee of 15 CHF” or such. Well, eff you.

If I pay in EUR with my regular Cembra card it’s also about that much ripoff (1.5% conversion fee plus horrible exchange rate). PayPal the same (even worse exchange rate).

I activated yesterday, the IBAN is CH93 XXXX XXXX 6102 7, apparently with Postfinance, but yes, you still need a reference. Does that mean that this Swiss IBAN is also just a collector IBAN? Well, that’s pretty useless then :frowning:

they call is vIBAN or Virtual Iban. Seems like a new thing to offer.
For practical purposes you should assume your liability is covered by Lithuanian bank terms.

What I saw is booking shows you “indicative price” when you look through offers, but when you start to book, they show the actual price you are going to pay in CHF, and there are couple of % markup included.

Hi All
I owe someone about 93 EUR. Since I have no EUR at hand, I will pay with my CHF accounts.

when I entered a SEPA transaction in Postfinance, it showed 88.69 CHF total.
For fun I went to my NEON account, where the same 93 CHF would cost me 89.41 CHF, more than with PF. Did I miss something?^^

I thought I had Neon for its superior fx terms??

I thought the good fx terms were card only?

Wise says 88.33…

I just got an email from Neon. They offer Gold and Silver ETF with the usual 0% fee until end of year. Both belong to Swisscanto. Gold CH0139101593 Silver CH0183135976

You still have the selling fees right? Unless you manage to time it to another 0% selling fee offer.

That Swisscanto Gold ETF has a 0.40% TER. The UBS Gold ETF has a 0.23% TER (and there are cheaper Gold ETFs outside Switzerland). I wouldn’t recommend that if you intend to hold it for many years.

(For silver the difference is similar with a 0.60% vs. 0.45% TER).

I will take a look at this. Unfortunately, these Swiss ETFs are less liquid and have wider spreads than GLD (GLD 0.003%, AUUSIUSD - 0.1-0.5%) and GLDM.

I know there is no buy/sell offer with this one on Neon, but a cheaper TER for long term is better right?
Invesco Physical Gold - 0.12% - IE00B579F325.

I think UBS & ZKB ETFs offer possibility to convert to bullion. Rest of the ETFs are mostly paper trading. Maybe that explains the spread and liquidity.

Btw did I understand it correctly that we now need to pay 10chf to renew an expiring Neon card?

That’s my understanding. My card is about to expire, I was a bit puzzled about this fee at first but didn’t hesitate for long. It’s still an excellent package for me.

Where did you read that? I don’t see written anywhere.

@ma0 This is displayed before the card expires.
