Mustachian phone plan [2023]

Well 5G is 98% useless of the timd and 4G uses less energy on your terminal so that doesn’t shock me.

  • in rural area Swisscom network is still better than others!

Strongly disagree regarding 5G. Especially in cities.

Of course depends on user requirements (e.g. streaming).

But maybe Swisscom 4G performs better than Salt/Sunrise 4G. Havent had Swisscom network since forever due to costs.

Nice thank you for the reminder. Just be careful that some offers on alao are 24 months duration. Yallo black is not, apparently!

What do you think of this setup :

1.Take this : Coop Mobile Start | Coop Mobile
Swisscom network for 10 per month !

2.Activate this to double data for free : Option EU Pass | Coop Mobile
Data not used are reported on next months !

3.When abroad, activate the EU pass for 10 per month in order to use my subscription in EU.
Minimum duration is 60 days, i.e. 20 chf

4.Eventually, pay my subscription with COOP superpoints.
But I am not going to COOP usually…

so 20chf/month.
vs. 23chf/m from yallo with unlimited data in ch and eu/etc.
vs 23 chf/m from wingo (swisscom) but 3gb data in eu.

All similar imho

20 per month during 2-3 months, if I go abroad.

No 5G for the Coop offer. (or 10.- on top/month)
And I need >6GB/month. But otherwise, decent deal, especially for occasional/not heavy users!

One could ask if paying more for 5G is Mustachian…

It’s not, hence I have a plan where 5G is just part of the deal, w/o additional fees.

And for those that think 5G never matters, try it out at your location (you can turn on/off 5G in the phone settings) before judging. In my case it makes a huge difference.

When I do this indoor (outdoor the diff. would be even bigger) at one of my frequent locations in the city I get*:

  • 4 Mbps with 4G+
  • 65 Mbps with 5G

Same phone, same position, only with or without 5G enabled.

*Results will differ depending on location (urban or not etc).

They lowered that to 5 for me when I chatted with them before I signed up a while back…

I got recently my business phone converted to a personal one with prepaid and I’m looking around for a good new deal. Beside mobile also my internet/TV is due to renovation.

How is the experience with Yallo so far? Do they offer 5G as standard? I see only high speed internet but only thanks to this forum I realized that some of the providers actually only offer 4G.

I think so, at least I have 5G with them without paying extra.

With Black Friday approaching, there is a fantastic deal from Talk Talk that I have been using for almost 3 years.
Swiss Lifelong Deal for CHF 11.- per month for unlimited Internet and calls in CH plus 1 GB per month in European countries, including Turkiye, United Kingdom and USA

Looks like offer might expire shortly.

I am with talktalk on Sunrise network since 2 years but this is a disaster in my rural region.

Me too, suburbs of ZH (Goldcoast) and it works like a charm! 5G is faster than landline at home. The only place i notice reduced speed is in the train.

Ditto with Yallo (i.e. Sunrise). On the train, the network is terrible, if not unusable. But that definitely wasn’t the case in the past. I wonder if Sunrise has become a victim of its own success. Digitec Mobile, Digital Republic, Yallo, Quickline, Talk Talk, Aldi Mobile, Lebara, Teleboy Mobile, Swype etc. all use the Sunrise network. This has an impact on quality.

Spusu.ch is now offering 3 black friday deals.

Crossposting this great deal for the 5G option for Wingo Mobile from the internet provider thread:

Unlimited Internet (11GB fast) CH+EU, unlimited calls/sms CH+EU. 6 months free, then 10 CHF. I think they use Salt and are still very niche. They are part of Telekom Serbia Group.

They write ‘unlimited 5G’ but if you scroll down to the details they only write about 4G and 3G speed.

Probably just a error in the description though I guess.

Price is competitive, as long as you use <11GB data per month.

If I read it correctly (only read on the main page) there is also no minimum duration (and cancellation period 60 days). So one could test it and just cancel it before starting to pay for it…
