Your idea of BTC, ETH and LTC is good, but I would stay away from Ripple, Bitcoin Cash and other altcoins. BTC, ETH and LTC have a much more solid development team and community than the rest.

I’ve got out of them rather quickly, don’t remember why. I am itching to say that I felt that it is too good to be true, but probably I just have a hindsight bias… I think it’s because they had no trading and I was not in the hodling mood.
