Toy and future-proofing aspect. Let’s admit it, it is fun to have new stuff and spending extra for a hobby is also OK. Plus you don’t want to buy again if you end up needing something more powerful.
The only thing that speaks against #2 is the extra weight when commuting.
It feels like there are articles like this every year. The content is always the same: “Don’t buy it, because the next one will be better.” But that’s logical. The next one will rarely be worse.
I still think that 99% of the stuff we do (or Cortana ) are doable with a phone cpu/gpu.
Google Lapdock or NexDock. Those are my choices if I have to go back to commuting on trains. This is more true if you have a NAS at home where you should have all your data and sometimes apps (remote desktop).
Apple doesn’t like that much so maybe on iPhone it’s not such a smooth ride..
Is it because of the specs or the ruggedness of the computer itself? The specs of the Air should also last you 10 years for light work.
Most smartphones (mines?) become obsolete because they get no more OS updates and apps become unavailable on them. Otherwise, they would also last 10 years with potentially a battery change.
