GameStop short squeeze

Sure, if he posts that he sold his positions. He could just take the cash (and run) and stop posting…

yep, all my fun money form my small NW … 400$
900$ today

After yesterdays battlezone, today might be even crazier?!
Nonetheless i am very excited about today, its like GOT season finale, but actually good.
GME $1000 :rocket::rocket::rocket::rocket:

Many of the trading platforms experienced problems, as did IB. The problems started around open and lasted well 3 4 hours before they were cleared. Imagine not being able to trade during this volatile time…

And no, i am not trading on Margin, as it would give leverage to the shorts. During a squeeze you need to buy with cash, from the little I understand.

Can anyone explain to me how you can short more stocks than there even are? I mean how can you close your short position if there aren’t enough to buy from?

I think it has to do with shares getting shorted and then borrowed and shorted again and so on. >you could possibly have a look through some of the rather detailed posts on WSB explaining the whole squeeze.

The wsb discord is still barely working after yesterdays ban…

I truly hope for you that at least you did your research and figured out it’s AMC, not ACM…

IB has a decent interface for options. Can you create a linked cash account? It won’r blow over because IB checks for collateral before allowing you to place an options order.

You also have to pass a knowledge test before getting trading permissions for options. That’s probably the best safeguard because you should know what you are doing.

Looks like he has sold some of those calls. They are down to 500 from 800 since the previous update. He’s been doing that consistently while the number of shares has remained the same. It makes total sense though.

Imagine buying calls for 0.20 and now they are worth $335. That took some vision and adamantium balls. He stood by his research for over a year. One for the history books.

Yes, it was typo… just corrected. Thanks!

The GameStop Game Never Stops - Bloomberg (posted earlier, should work in incognito) explains it very well (both the gamma and the short squeeze)

Gamma squeeze is when people buy call options, the market maker has to hedge it and buy some shares:

You haven’t done anything else—you bought the options on Tuesday, and then stopped trading—but the market maker kept buying hundreds of dollars more stock as the stock went up to keep the option hedged. Multiply that by the extreme popularity of GameStop options, and you get a lot of stock being bought as the price goes up—which, of course, pushes the price up more.

Which instrument are you talking about specifically? Otherwise it’s hard to check.

it is slightly more complicated than that, like with all the greeks, theta (time) decay, premium and so on.

If you really want to dive in, check youtube:

Isn’t break even 30 USD minus commission? If I understand you want to buy put with strike 100, by paying 70USD, no?

It’s 103 USD pre share of those 100. So the option costs you 10300 USD.

Break-even is therefore at 92.70 USD share price (however somewhat realistic that it will be below that)

I mean if you hate money, you can always buy a put.
Otherwise I would suggest you buy GME.

It’s perhaps no coincidence: it seems that plenty of orders have been placed at $420.69. Search “420.69” on WSB…

…ofc ist not
