I don’t think so. I actually would like to eventually buy some proper photography/videography equipment, but that involves a camera, a lens, a backpack, it easily goes way over 1k€. Plus I would still need a good phone. And even with a camera, I would still take some photos with my phone, depending on the occasion (I always carry my phone with me which would not be the case with a camera).
That’s true, I respect Apple for that. But at the same time what I don’t like about Apple is that you become a prisoner to the ecosystem, and they can abuse you at will - which they do, with the USB-C cable thing, with that ridiculous mouse that cannot be used and charged at the same time, with the wireless earphones for which you can buy a wire, and (I don’t know if this is true or not) with the downgrades you get to force you to buy the next version of the iPhone.
What do you mean by “USB-C cable thing”?
Regarding the other points: I don’t see how they make you a prisoner. You’re free to buy mouses and keyboards and wireless headphones and whatever by innumerable other manufacturers and these work perfectly well with Apple devices, connected via industry standards (USB-C, Bluetooth, wi-fi)?
There’s lots wrong with Apple, but this argument I don’t get.
No it most likely wouldn’t, because 99.99% of “hobby photographers” will not sit down and spend hours editing raw photos, but need them to share and be viewed on phone screens.
Just the first line on ricardo shows you can get a camera and lens for a couple hundred: https://www.ricardo.ch/de/s/eos/
The best camera is the one that you always have with you.
I have several thousand bucks worth of SRL camera and exquisite lens equipment, yet I now consider my 300 bucks 2020 iPhone SE my best camera nowadays. Always in my pocket.
Wouldn’t have snapped this last night otherwise
(not that this is a great photo, just that I was able to snap one quickly without having hauled a camera up and down the mountains).
true. maybe the main reason for the demise of cameras in the mainstream market.
The fact that Apple was now forced to create all charges with USB-C, like the whole industry was already doing. And the fact that they do that to force you to buy Apple products instead of the innumerable other manufacturers.
And as for the Apple ecosystem, sure, you can use other providers, but you have the highest value the more you use Apple products only.
I only gave a few examples that show that Apple has some values that I do not like, contributing, among other things, to me being an Android user.
Sure, as all things. But tech products are not something I enjoy buying second hand, and rarely do.
Sure, I agree with you.
And that’s why I went with paying a premium for a premium phone, to have a premium camera always with me.
But there’s no denying that there’s a huge difference between a phone photo and a good camera photo.
I don’t think that a phone camera will really get significantly better after 300-400 CHF. Especially now that even cheaper phones started getting OIS.
It will always “just” be a snapshot, since you don’t have proper lenses to do the fancy effects.
Since imposing 10 minute daily time limits on FB and Chrome. I noticed some patterns:
- I was using FB first thing in the morning in bed before even getting up. The 10 minute limit was triggered before I even got out of bed!
- A lot of the FB/Chrome time was during ‘lunch at work’
Last week average 44m per day:
1h31 Chrome
56m Facebook
35m IBKR
Chrome usage was high, but a lot of this was ‘reading while eating’ which maybe isn’t great, but is not using up extra time.
I do recommend using this function as it is helpful to see habits you don’t even realise you have.
EDIT: I have to say that I find the FB app somewhat ‘toxic’ now. I used to use it mainly to keep up with friends and some FB groups for my hobbies, but FB has now made it impossible to filter just for these and instead pushes ‘useless’ content on your such as reels and posts from other groups that ‘you might be interested in’. Obviously, their algorithm is pretty good in finding things that are addictive and you click on causing huge waste of time, esp. for video content.
I will see if I can find a way to filter out these - otherwise I will seriously consider deleting my FB account as I find it now a value net negative.
EDIT2: Fkk it, deactivated my FB account and deleted the links/apps from my phone and computer. Deleted a few other social media accounts too.
I bought a 1.2k chf phone (S22 Ultra) and have no regret whatsoever. The previous one lasted 4 years and the battery was dead after an hour of use… I wanted a top notch phone camera, great autonomy and great screen (at the time I spent 2h/day in the train, mostly sleeping or doing stuff on the phone).
I’m all for not buying too expensive stuff, but for people spending so many hours every week on a phone, I think it’s quite a good investment. Of course I wouldn’t follow the trend of buying a new one every other year, nowadays they easily last 3-4y with at worse a change of battery.
