Indeed… It is a good deal if you are a Yuh user/client (although free only at buying step with recurring order)…
Buy and hodl (and die watching your portfolio, happy to have saved those fees).
so what would be the best way to buy a BITCOIN ETF on IB?
I would like to slowly add about 5% of my portfolio to crypto but want a more hands off (recurring buying solution)
or should I really learn how to buy and put in cold storage?!

As a Swiss resident, Interactive Brokers is not the best place for Bitcoin. You have to be with the US entity (default is UK) or other conditions have to be manually activated, etc. I don’t know much about IB and Bitcoin, but you can find dozens of discussions on this forum. If I were you, I would forget about Interactive Brokers for that. However, there are plenty of alternatives:
Buy IBIT at Saxo, Self-Custody with Relai or Buy at Kranken and send to cold storage etc.
Since this thread is about IBIT: Saxo allows you to buy it.
Honestly… Cold storage vs. ETF… Matter of choice and philosophy…
But if interested in Bitcoin ETFs at IB… This should be (I hope) resolved within next days (weeks? Months?) As FCA lifted the 4 years ban on crypto for retail investors since Oct. 13th
Several ETFs are already listed at LSE:
CBTC LSE – 21Shares Bitcoin Core ETP
IB1T LSEETF – iShares Bitcoin ETP
WXBT LSE – WisdomTree Physical Bitcoin
… etc.
But IB UK… Is so slooooww…. ![]()
You should thank them as BTC is cheaper now than on 13 Oct.
Reminds me of my past in the industry. More often than not, clients who pushed the most and had it super urgent, would have been better off trading later.
I definitely was at IB’s UK banch, I definitely only activated the Crypto permission, and I definitely bought and sold BTC at Paxos through IB.
Still, a real crypto exchange is also cheap and has more features (e.g. staking, deposit/withdraw). Some more important than others for BTC.
A 5% exposure won’t hurt that much, even if they outright stole it. A setback of about 1 year of returns and a lesson learned.
Crypto ETP listed at London Stock are now available for IBKR UK investors

Just tried with IB1T (at LSE)
Which permissions do you have “on”?
My “crypto” are enabled,
but the one you specify is still unavailable for me.
Is it “complex and leveraged products” that’s needed for this one?
I think … either this one (leveraged products) …
Either (simply)… UK stocks (I had to activate it for my children’s accounts too to make it work)
Let me know ![]()
