Allow me to introduce myself: they call me cubanpete

Out of curiosity, how are those buildings around you heated? You can check through the federal registry, with a graphical view here: Maps of Switzerland - Swiss Confederation - map.geo.admin.ch

To get to the legend, you can either click on the gear of the layer in the left menu, then the “!” circle, or click on individual dots and watch the heating source individually.

Thanks for that link, very interesting but seems not to be accurate. It says “electricity” for my neighbor which is not true, he switched to heating oil more than 10 years ago.

But then another neighbor who switched to heating pump is correct. Strange. 9 are still with heating oil. I suppose they are in the same situation, thinking of cashing out and then there is no value in replacing the heating system.

On the new blocks it says “Luft”, “Wärmepumpe für mehrere Gebäude”. That means there is enough power with an air based heat pump, even to heat several blocks. It means too that the situation with the ground water drinking source still inhibits water based heat pumps, which probably are more effective.

Checked 9 houses including mine, 8 still heating oil (one wrongly described as electrical), 1 heat pump. Of the 8 with heating oil two will be thorn down soon to build new blocks.

Addon: the wrong data is correct in the sense that they state the information is based on data of 29.11.2001 and then he still had an electrical heating system, an old and very inefficient one that eat up a lot of money.

The data are based on building permits, which should be obtained for changes in the heating system. It’s possible for it to be incomplete. It’s also possible changes have been made without a permit (should not occur but people can think that they’re not changing the outside of their house and hence don’t require a permit, while heating specifically requires one).

Modern air pumps can be very efficient and not very noisy, that’s the route I would try to pursue. Another option would be wood pellets though they require either to carry some bags from time to time and/or sufficient storage space (which oil heating should also do so maybe the retrofitting wouldn’t be too impactful).

If you intend to sell your house and it will be torn down to make a building, then there’s indeed not too much sense changing the system, depending on the timeline. I’d still check the cost of an air pump including subsidies if the authorities request it and depending on your timeline. A few solar pannels to generate the electricity it needs would then probably also be worth it. If we’re speaking 20+ years, it probably justifies its cost.

I think in this thread there are some assumptions which are worth to be checked before saying everything is complicated:

  • efficiency of 20+ years oil burner: 98% would be fantastic. Is the heat energy measured or a number from the cataloge?
  • air heat pumpt not strong enough: You mentioned 30 month with one tank. How big is your tank? important number is the energy consumed during the heating period (to be exact: only the energy used for heating, you can forget about warm water)
  • I would always prefer brine-water or water-water Heatpumps, if I intend to use the house as 50 years plus. Otherwise air-water would probably be cheaper
  • Why is there a need for change? I know many oil burner with 30+ years. You could consider buying all possible spare parts, if you fear that they are not available in the future

Answers:
Efficiency: It is measured every year.
Air heat pumps seem to be more than strong enough as two of the new blocks are heated that way.
No need for change, just the law requires it if renting or selling.

wasnt aware of that situation in kt ZH.

There was a voting a few years ago.

GWR heating type data is notoriously outdated unfortunately.

See GWR heating type data monitoring (German version linked - not available in English)

The data are based on building permits

This is only one of several possible sources (see same link) @Wolverine

No hard feelings, but as a mechanical investor I have to note that this place is not giving anything back, so sorry, I leave.

Had a good time with all of you and I am really sorry to leave you back with the holy grail believers. But it is about economics, and it is not very economic for me to spend the little time I got left of my live (probably not even a 100 years) here.

Hello
Logged in again mainly to respond to the many messages of fellow investors here. But sorry, I am out. Some points:

  • Civil language: I wrote probably a dozen times that Spain is a tax shithole, now Holland is becoming one. My first song presented here was about the life of slaves in the 21th century. I use harsh language to describe harsh things, so what?
  • Deleting a thread without even the slightest form of communication is censorship and is laughing about my effort to write in a foreign language.
  • The owners of that site and me do have different interpretations of the words “civil” and “censorship”.
  • I came here because there are some cool people here. I have time and don’t mind helping beginners, have over 40 years of experience in the financial markets. But I won’t visit a bar if I don’t like the actions of the owners. I respect that they can maintain their house as they like, but it is just not for me.

Thanks for a bit over a year, I generally had a good time. But some frontiers were crossed and we cannot turn back time.

I posted some links to another forum which I am not sure if that is allowed. Yesterday there was some action in my momentum strategy, but I do only comment there now. Keep a bookmark, it will be deleted soon I suppose.

No hard feelings please, I say goodbye.

Pete left a link to another forum.

I know cubanpete is on two other forums. But one is German-speaking, so I wasn’t interested in that one, but maybe I should practice my German a bit too.

Not sure if YFN went anywhere else.

I’m hoping after some time, they might come back as the forum would be much better with them here.

You’d better link to one of his posts there, his profile is not available without a logged in account.

You’re right. Here you go: https://swissforum.co.uk/t/simply-stock-trading/143528 .

Looks like a great place. I’ll subscribe and start a thread about… what was it about… damn… Dutch law something.
